Doing some research at Newegg, they list about 15 different types of storage media.

Take the actual camera out of the picture (no pun intended), would there be a preferred type?

Does it matter one way or the other, for instance, if considering buying a used camera?

Is there a preferred manufacturer of storage media, in other words, does name brand really mean anything? Does the media go bad?

Does storage media impose a time lag in a fast shooting environment?

Choice is a good thing but invariably confusing.

I don't think it make a whole lot of difference as far as the type of card, the camera would be more important. I will caution on the manufacturer, don't get an off brand some of them from what I've read will keep formatting and may be slow in reloading for the next shot. I don't remember the names. If you look at tirger direct's site they will reviews sometime someone will tell of bad experiences with a give card.

The problem with flash memory as a storage device is that no matter which brand you use it will eventually go bad, so the best storage media would be something external to the camera that isn't prone to loosing data after a certain number of read/writes, CD-R/DVD+/-R, etc..

 What about online storage space? As long as it's a reputable and well established company.
