I found a post on the Pencil forum about compiling for Linux. I sent a reply asking for help or asking if sciboy would compile 4.4b. Hope I get an answer from them soon. Have you been able to run 4.3? You can convert the deb to rpm and then install it if you haven't done so. Don't give up things will get worked out for us.

I see you have posted in the pencil forum that you are trying to get someone to build an rpm, if you get one I can turn it into a deb real easy, in the mean time I'm still try to build from source but there seems to be a missing file that would allow linux to compile it, no configure file. Right now I'm only getting a partial build. I haven't been working very hard on it as there seems to be a lot of errors and stuff I don't know but will keep trying, one of these days it will fall into place.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm a hands on kind of guy and like to learn how things work. I wish that the src was sent up like most other source files so I could see the info clearer. It looks like the Pencil package is setup for Mac's and I don't have a clue to there file structure. I'm going to try and get some help from the Klikit forum, they are great at helping. Pencil does somethings that I haven't been able to get to work in Linux  before, like my pencil/stylus works with pressure and when I turn my pencil over the eraser works the way it should, I also like have both bitmap and vector in the same program. All in all this can be a great program with a little more tweaking.

The reply window is working today, almost half the time it won't open. I've found out what should be there but can't find were to put the command almost all the files are binary so nothing can be done with them without corrupting the program. I don't know enough to install from source without more info. Guess we will have to wait until someone writes.04  I was hoping we could edit the conf file and get things to work.

Geminiguy: That's what I was looking for, there aren't very many files to work with. I'm mainly a user so don't know much about a lot of this stuff. I'm going to download the mac file to see if I can get into it to take a look as to what may have to be changed.

I've found out that the Mac version .04 has a place in preferences to turn off the auto save. Not being a programmer at all I'm not sure how to get this to work in the linux version. I've tried in pencil config to add autosave=off, autosave false and auto save=no none seem to work. there doesn't seem to be any files that show anything about autosave or anything like that. I'll keep messing with it to see if I can't get something to work. I still think this is a good program if this bug can be fixed.

I'd like to change my vote. This program stinks, it keeps popping up save as option every 45 seconds to 1 minute, I haven't gotten any answers from the forum. When I first looked at it I thought this is going to be fun. there isn't anything in their man pages or how to. They can keep it.
11  InkScape / InkScape Talk / Re: Is there a way to keep settings? on: January 25, 2008, 06:47:48 pm
Thanks Jaws it works. I didn't get the message as I forgot to check reply. I want to make a fretwork pattern of the Klikit clock and didn't want to have to keep resetting everything for every line. I think Ink Scape can replace my Corel Draw in time, just need to work with it a lot more.
12  InkScape / InkScape Talk / Is there a way to keep settings? on: January 23, 2008, 07:18:52 am
I'm having trouble keeping settings in a drawing. I use the pen tool a lot it seems that everytime  I click on a new spot I have to re define the color and stroke width, this is getting to be a BIG Pain. The same is true for the pencil tool. Is the away to keep the settings, I haven't been able to find them I've read the wiki links and as much how to that I've been able to find with no luck.
Thanks
13  Gimp / Gimp Talk / Re: "save as" .... "unknown file type" on: January 18, 2008, 06:42:30 pm
Woodsmoke: Are you doing a save as or an export? I'm at the wrong box right now I can't check it out, but I think save/save as native file ext you need to export to what ever you want after that I think you can do a save/save as in that file ext. This would be true for what ever graphic program that you are using.

Woodsmoke just an update to this post. I did a scan using Gimp and xsane and had no issues saving the scan, I choose jpeg for the file ext but think would work in any of the choices. Don't know what to tell you, there is a place down at the bottom left that is a drop down where you choose your file ext have you done that?  I'm assuming you are working out of Klikit as I am. What scan client are you using? My scanner would work in kooka only xsane.
On a side note it looks like IRC #Klikit is no longer there, can you get on YIM? if so maybe we could work it out that way let me know via e-mail as to time.
Sawer

You can try getting me at YIM Sawer or PM though Klikit

I don't think it make a whole lot of difference as far as the type of card, the camera would be more important. I will caution on the manufacturer, don't get an off brand some of them from what I've read will keep formatting and may be slow in reloading for the next shot. I don't remember the names. If you look at tirger direct's site they will reviews sometime someone will tell of bad experiences with a give card.
Hope this helps.

the big thing is I'd like to be able to import CDR file ext into inkscape. I have several hundred patterns in this format. I'm not holding my breath as Corel won't let out any info on there ext. I think the only way I can do this is export them from Draw as a svg, a lot of time.
