I'm having trouble keeping settings in a drawing. I use the pen tool a lot it seems that everytime  I click on a new spot I have to re define the color and stroke width, this is getting to be a BIG Pain. The same is true for the pencil tool. Is the away to keep the settings, I haven't been able to find them I've read the wiki links and as much how to that I've been able to find with no luck.
Thanks

Yes, you can save settings. You can get there two different ways. Here's the way I do it...

Use the pen tool and draw a line.

Open the Fill and Stroke dialog and set fill, stoke and stroke style to your preferences.

Double left click on the pen tool, which opens the Inkscape Preferences dialog, with the pen tool preferences already selected.

Select --> This tool's own style and then click on --> Take from selection. You can do this for every tool in the tool bar, even the rectangle, ellipse, star and spiral.

The other way is to go to --> File --> Inkscape Preferences --> Tools.

Cheers

I agree, it becomes quite aggrevating sometimes when each tool retains the settings of the last time you used it. It should always start with the default setting each time it is reused. This is something which could be mentioned to the devs at inkscape.org
I will email them or use the forum... maybe there is a fix for this already in place., as I am sure we are not the first to comment on it. Wink

Um, it doesn't, if you do it the way I posted. You have the option to use...

default style - which you determine

or last used style.

Each tool has their own settings.

You know, it's funny but I was going to do a quick tip last week about exactly the question Sawer posted. I guess I don't have to now. Grin

Thanks Jaws it works. I didn't get the message as I forgot to check reply. I want to make a fretwork pattern of the Klikit clock and didn't want to have to keep resetting everything for every line. I think Ink Scape can replace my Corel Draw in time, just need to work with it a lot more.
